There is a lot of death, romance, action, and much more. The Hunger Games was created after the First Rebellion, the war, as the Capitol’s form of punishment for the districts. The story takes place during the 74th Hunger Games. Everyone would love something different about the story, but there are so many amazing elements, there’s something you’ll like.

The book became popular when many people started reading it, but why? Every chapter makes you want to read more and more. Life in Panem is so different yet the same as here. It’s such a unique story with all the elements for anyone to get hooked to. One sixth grader convinced a classmate to read the series and it took off from there.

If you haven’t read the series, you may be wondering what Panem is. Panem is the country that the story takes place in. It is located in future North America as the only known life left on Earth. There are 13 districts and the Capitol, but District 13 was bombed and no longer exists. In Mockingjay, we find out that Panem means bread and circuses.

There are many locations that the story takes place in, all within Panem. The story starts out in District 12, Katniss’s home. The woods nearby are also a key setting. Then, the tributes are taken to the Capitol to prepare for the arena, which is the next setting. The arena is where the Games themselves take place. In the next two books, we see other settings.

All of the books are really good, but the class agrees that though Mockingjay is really good, it’s not people’s favorite of the three. It’s between The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and though it’s close, The Hunger Games is the class’s favorite by 1, with results of 5-4 from those who have read a. All of the books are really good, though, and to many they’re almost equal.

The 6th graders who like the series would 100% recommend this book series to everyone, but it is a little violent. It’s rated 12+ on the internet, but some students read it at 10. Some people should wait, though, depending on their tolerance. So all in all, it could be 10+ for those who can tolerate more violence, but 12 or 14+ for those who can’t yet.

This series is full of cliffhangers. Some chapters end in them, but some don’t. The biggest cliffhanger was at the end of Catching Fire, and some students were up late starting Mockingjay!

So overall, The Hunger Games is a really good book series that so many students enjoy because of many things.

By Paulina

What Makes The Hunger Games So Good?
