Recently, after the flag football unit in PE, some sixth graders have realized that they enjoy the sport and would like to play on a Los Encinos School flag football team. This flag football team would just be for LES. We would not play against other schools, and it would just be for fun and to play flag football with your schoolmates.
Flag football is fun for students who enjoy a sport with a lot of action. It includes many aspects of other sports, including catching, running, and throwing, making for a game like no other. Some 6th graders didn’t really bother to see what flag football was like or actually understand the game, but this year, they gave it a try, and found just how much fun it is.
Many sixth graders joined a fantasy football league recently, and that convinced some of them to actually give it a try in the flag football unit. The league taught them a bit about the game, as well as who some good players are.
All genders will have equal play in the team. Also, flag football is a game that younger kids can play, so the team will probably be either grades 3-6 or 4-6.
Flag football has a lot of positions, including defense, quarterback, wide receiver, running back, center, rusher, and safety. The center snaps the ball to the quarterback, who can run the ball, hand it off to a running back, or throw it to a wide receiver. Whoever has the ball tries to score a touchdown. The other team’s defense tries to stop that team from scoring a touchdown. There are four downs in a series, which is when the play is over.
Parents will have to sign students onto the team, but injuries are less likely to happen because this is flag football, not tackle.
Though flag football has been a really fun sport for many students, it’s not for everyone. Maybe another sport will be for you, but it’s a great game to try. And anyways, this team would be just for fun, because flag football is a fun game to play with your friends.
