Big earthquake due along the San Andreas Fault

Many Californians are used to small earthquakes. Tremors occurs every once in a while in California. However, the earthquake along the San Andreas Fault that poses a threat is said to be 4.3-7.6 or larger on the Richter scale. A warning was issued to Southern Californians when a series of small earthquakes occurred in the Salton Sea, very close to the San Andreas Fault. The fear of seismologists and geologists is that a small earthquake in the vicinity of the fault may trigger the earthquake that is building up along the fault.

The earthquake that is predicted to occur is will be a result of the Pacific tectonic plate building up tension with the North American plate. The two plates are rubbing up against each other in opposite directions. This is called a transform plate, and will be the cause of the earthquake, and it will be a big one. Californians are doing all they can to prepare for the quake.

Many people along the coast of California are worried about the threat of the large earthquake. In an effort to preserve their homes, Southern Californians are taking action in ways such as strapping down their televisions, keeping extra food and water on hand, bolting bookshelves, and doing much more in case of an emergency. There is a lot that you can do to prepare for the earthquake. Don’t be a victim, be prepared!
